• Vinyl windows are engineered to conserve energy

Vinyl windows are engineered to conserve energy and save money by replacing older windows that do not keep energy from escaping around the windowsill; which makes the energy savings attractive when the vinyl windows are installed. Vinyl windows are made from polyvinyl chloride, which is also known as PVC and one of the main reasons why they use it for windows is that it does not Hex Bolts Manufacturers conduct heat or cold very well. The first step is to decide on a window style, there are several different models from the style that open with a crank from the bottom; the sliding kind and the ones that tilt for easy cleaning. The tools that are required include : a pry bar; reciprocating saw; level; shims; claw hammer; level; caulking gun and Silicon caulk; utility knife; size 2" and 3" galvanized nails and insulation (either the spay kind or fiberglass). The next step is to find out the size that your replacement window has to be; this can be done by measuring the rough opening after the inside boards that make up the trim of the window are removed using the pry bar to remove the boards, being careful to keep them intact.

Then use the reciprocating saw to cut through any of the nails that remain keeping the window in place. Measure the height and width of the rough opening this will be the size of window you need to order from a home supply place or a window store. Examine the frame and sill of the window. If the window still has old caulking hold it in place cut through it and discard. Check for any damage to the window frame and repair it if necessary, then make sure it is clean and free of old nails or debris. Now, you are ready to install the new window in the clean opening. It is a good idea to make sure it will fit by measuring it and the window opening.

Using the caulking gun, spread a nice layer of caulk on the bottom windowsill, then from the outside, lift the window in place, making sure it is centered properly. Now you need to make certain the window stays in place while you finish making certain it is level and square with the frame, using one of the nails, carefully drive it partway through the metal part in the upper right hand corner of the window frame; then use the level to check that it is in line with the rest of the window frame both horizontally and vertically. You may have to use the shims to hold it in place. Go inside and check to see if the window opens and closes properly, than fasten the shims in place using the 2 inch nails. Finish nailing the window in place with the longer 3" nails in the flange holes on the outside. Then install the insulation around the window gaps to make sure it is water and weatherproof. Finally, nail the interior and exterior trim boards back in place, put your tools away and relax.
